Tredana Marchfire

Go to Pedigree

Tredana Marchfire was bred by my dear departed friend, Joyce Gregorian. We purchased him as a yearling just before Les and I got married.  He was my wedding present from my husband, Les. His great disposition and very willing ways made us decide that we wanted Welsh Ponies.

Marchie is great fun to ride!  He has one of those rocking chair canters that is to die for.  He also is a great showman.  We are coming out of the Syracuse Coliseum after he won the Welsh pleasure under saddle championship at New York State Breeders. He had also won the halter championship, Welsh pleasure driving championship and the open pony driving championship.

In 1992, when we visited with Anna and Milton Jones in Wales, Milton asked if he could have a copy of this picture.

Marchie loves driving best.  He is one of those ponies that you can drive with your baby finger.  Perhaps, my most memorable driving win with Marchie is when he won an open ADS pleasure driving class at a show judged by the BDS judge, Anne Muir (Stoatley Stud) .  The class had over 40 entries of Welsh ponies, other pony breeds, Cobs and small horses. The class took over an hour and half.  Anne had bred Marchie's grandsire, Stoatley Royal Oak.

This Marchie at his first CDE at Millbrook, NY.  They 'forgot' to lower the water hazard for the ponies.  Even though it didn't rain, we were rather wet when we got to the finish of the marathon!
Marchie was also the kind of stallion that a child could show.  This picture is of my son, Les Jr. driving him in New Jersey.  Marchie was also shown regularly under saddle by juniors.

Marchie at play in the back pasture at twenty years young!
Sadly, on December 10, 2002 Marchie was put down.  He is greatly missed.  His stall is still empty since I don't have the heart to put another Welsh in yet.
