Minyffordd Maid of Adfa

Addie, as we call Minyffordd Maid of Adfa and I met for the first time at Milton Jones in Adfa, Wales in the fall of 1993. I had seen her trucking around the pasture with to 'die for movement'.   I got to hold Addie as Milton and India Haynes were working on her to get her ready for the next foal show.  She stood like a rock as she was being bathed and cleaned up.  She had the biggest eye and the sweetest nature and I quickly fell madly in love!
It is not a good thing to fall in love with an animal that you don't own.  Milton wanted to keep her and show her the next season. It took me a fair amount of 'arm twisting' in the wee hours of the morning before I left for the States to get her.   Her mother, Beech-Hay Dairy Maid is a great producer and show mare.  Click to see her and others at Minyffordd Cobs.  Her sire, Minyffordd Diplomat, is an attractive Cob by great producer, Nebo Daniel.
On our first trip to the UK, Gretchen and I were able to see both Nebo Daniel and Nebo Brenin. I was rather in awe of Nebo Brenin and thought him one of the best Cobs I have ever seen.  The way his neck set into his shoulder is one of the finest I have ever seen on ANY equine.
Purchasing Addie was an thrilling thing to do but I had done my 'home work'.  I had carefully looked at numerous animals in Addie pedigree and her half sister out of Dairy Maid, Minyffordd Maid Marion is a stunning mare.  Of course, it didn't hurt that all three of these filly/mares had top show records.  Addie is also almost a full sister (sires full brothers) to the well known stallion, Minyffordd Megastar who was imported by Mynydd Hir Stud, Durango, CO. Click to see Mynydd Hir Stud.
Addie had been Supreme Champion Foal at the Severn Valley Show shortly before I bought her.  Gretchen was delighted when Milton gave me her neck sash from the show to take home with me.  It still hangs in Gretchen's bedroom.
Addie is a great ambassador for the Welsh Cob breed.  She is the kindest mare and most everyone that 'meets' her soon adores her.  As a two year old, Addie was WPCSA Champion Sec. C/Sec D Filly.  Breaking Addie to saddle was the easiest thing I have ever done in my life.  Addie loves to go for rides on the miles of trails that surround us.  Addie has given innumerable people their first ride on a Cob.
Addie is in foal this year to Susan Stepney's (click to see Gallod Welsh Ponies & Cobs) Nebo Calonog for a July foal.  Since Nebo Calonog is by Nebo Daniel, the foal should prove to be a very lovely linebred youngster.

Minyffordd Diplomat is a neat stallion.  His owner, Mr. Rees, told me when he services local mares, his daughter rides him over to where the mare is, unsaddles him and then he services the mare.  Afterward his daughter rides him home.

Addie and I out on the trails enjoying ourselves! Addie loves going through water and it is good thing since we have to cross several streams as we are in this picture.
